Press release: Commission to hold public meeting in Birmingham

The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales, in conjunction with the Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC), is inviting charities, trustees and charity advisers to attend its next free public meeting in Birmingham on Thursday 9 July 2015.

Those attending the meeting will benefit from presentations from senior staff on the following topics:

  • trustee duties and responsibilities
  • financial accountability issues – accounts defaulting, self-dealing and fraud
  • demonstrating financial resilience – income diversification and managing reserves
  • campaigning – what you can and can’t do, lessons from the election

Attendees will also be given an overview of the commission’s activities and the opportunity to ask questions of the Chief Executive, Paula Sussex.

The event is primarily of interest to trustees of charities in the West Midlands area, however it is also suitable for charity employees and advisers.

The meeting will take place at BVSC, The Centre for Voluntary Action, 138 Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DR between 11am and 2.20pm. The meeting is free to attend.
